SINTILLATE Sharm el-Sheikh
Perched on the tip of the Sinai Peninsula and strategically positioned at the entrance to the Gulf of Aqaba, Sharm el-Sheikh was, until the late 1960s, a sleepy fishing village tucked between the sea and the desert. When conflicts in the Middle East began to grow, President Nasser of Egypt blocked Israel's access to the Red Sea. In retaliation, Israel struck back at Egypt, Jordan, and Syria, compelling them to concede significant parcels of land, among them the Sinai. Once Israel had possession of the area, it developed Sharm el-Sheik into a military outpost, and the town began to draw tourists and vacationers as well. By the time Israel returned Sharm el-Sheik to Egypt in 1982, its reputation as a tourist destination was established, and the city has now become a fully-fledged resort mecca.

About Sharm el-Sheikh
On 30th December 2005 SINTILLATE launched a regular Friday night in the 5* resort of Sharm-el-Sheikh in Egypt! With year-round sun only 4 and a half short hours away and all the worlds luxury hotels on the door step (at a fraction of their prices elsewhere), Sharm is the ideal luxury holiday destination. And with Red-Sea flights and British Airways now flying scheduled flights to the resort its possible to also enjoy a weekend of clubbing with us!

The simplicity of sun, sea and sand. The luxury of five-star hotels, water sports, shopping and entertainment. Sharm el-Sheikh is one of the most accessible and developed tourist resort communities on the Sinai peninsula. All around are Bedouins, colorful tents, mountains and sea. There are small, intimate hotels with modern designs, as well as larger hotel complexes belonging to International chains, plus about all the amenities one could expect of a tourist center, including casinos, nightclubs, golf courses and health facilities. In fact, with diving and snorkeling, windsurfing and other water sports, horses and camel riding, desert safaris, bowling and great nearby antiquities attractions, it is almost impossible for a visitor to ever suffer from boredom.
Na'ama Beach is one of the centers of the tourist activities. Located just north of Sharm, this area is developing into a resort town of its own. Most hotels at Na'ama Bay have their own, private beaches with comfortable amenities such as chairs, shades and even bars.

Shark's Bay is also nearby, and again is a growing resort community with more and more to offer, along with several diving centers. Many boat excursions leave from here and attractions such as parasailing and the 'Great Big Mable' ride are cheap and fun! The beach also has several good places to eat and has a supermarket and internet cafe
The small harbor known as Sharm el-Moiya is located next to the civil harbor, has accommodations for boats, and includes a Yacht Club with rooms. Terrazina beach is probably one of the most lively beaches around with music piped loudly across its comfortable seating areas and restaurant.
For those who live to shop, the Sharm El-Sheikh mall provides shops with both foreign and local products, including jewelry, leather goods, clothing, pottery and books. Apart from the western style shopping malls of Naama Bay and its few souks, the Old Market offers a more authentic Egyptian shopping experience and is only a short taxi ride from the centre.

Diving
It has been said that this is a must visit for all diving enthusiasts. There are many diving sites along the 10 mile beach between Sharm el-Sheikh and Ras Nusrani. Ras Mohammed National Park provides a protected environment for flora and fauna, and diving enthusiasts have the opportunity to swim with dolphins and explore shipwrecks from past centuries. Next, the area between Tiran Island and Ras Mohammed National Park on the tip of the Southern Sinai features some of the world's most amazing underwater scenery.

Here, one finds crystal clear water, rare and beautiful reefs, and an incredible variety of exotic fish amongst the colorful coral. Much of this can be seen simply by snorkeling off the coast, but of course it is well known world-wide for scuba diving, with easy access to some of the Red Sea's most prominent and interesting dive sites. Just to the south of Sharm, on the very tip of the Sinai, is also one of Egypt's oldest and most beautiful, mostly underwater protectorates, Ras Mohamed. To accommodate divers, Sharm has every possible amenity, including first rate dive shops, centers and boats. Many of these are operated by Europeans, and they also provide excellent diving training. A few of the oldest include the Camel Dive Center and South Sinai Divers.

Desert Mountain Range
The Sinai peninsula is a remote desert mountain range (with Mount Sinai reputedly being where Moses received the 10 commandments). The rocky mountains are parted from the deep-blue sea by a flat desert strip. This combination of desert and sea is an incredible sight and makes you believe your are on a different planet. The best way to see this is by taking part in one of many jeep or quad bike safaris. KTM offers motorbike training and desert adventures as well as quad bikes and dune buggy trips. These are fantastic fun and are an essential part of the Sharm experience.

The Sharm el-Sheikh area consists of three main areas, consisting of the old town Sharm el Maya (Moya) and its bay, a number of other bays, where most of the tourist facilities are located, though in fact some very fine resorts are located elsewhere, and El Hadaba, where there are vacations villas, apartments, condominiums and a few hotels. Four Seasons, the Hyatt, the Intercontinental, another Hilton, the Sheraton, the Movenpick Golf Hotel, which was host to Egypt's first professional golf tournament, and others such as the Holiday inn. A number of other hotels are scattered about, including the Ritz Carlton and the Hilton Waterfalls to the south of Na'ama Bay nearer to downtown. There are a number of other very fine hotels that are not part of major chains, as well as more affordable hotels, some private and some chain, such as the Days Inn.
